Winter sports expert Hannesson follows Ternisien from EBU to Infront
Infront, the international sports marketing agency,
Hannesson comes on board as an exclusive strategic adviser and focused primarily on future acquisitions and the exploitation of winter sport media rights.
Hannesson left the EBU mid-way through last year, having headed up the body's winter sports and indoor sports rights portfolio.
He is the second senior EBU official in less than a year to take up a role at Infront, following the agency's appointment of Julien Ternisien as director of its restructured summer sports business unit. Ternisien had been the EBU’s head of sports rights for summer sports.
Bruno Marty, Infront's senior vice-president of winter sports said: “Ingolfur is one of the few and most seasoned experts within the field of winter sport media rights. We are pleased we could exclusively secure his services and unique expertise to further strengthen our media rights portfolio and our market-leading position in global winter sports.”
Hannesson added: “In the rapidly evolving world of sports and electronic media, federations and other rights-holders need a reliable partner who can deliver solid financial offers along with various services covering the whole value chain. Infront has clearly and repeatedly demonstrated an unrivalled capacity to do exactly that and I am looking forward to contributing to the future success of the company.”
Hannesson spent more than 16 years at the EBU, prior to which he was director of TV and radio sports at RUV, Iceland's national broadcaster.
Infront is the dominant agency in winter sports, with long-term commercial deals in place with the international governing bodies of curling, ice hockey, luge, biathlon and bobsleigh and skeleton.
It also has marketing agreements in place with all but three of the national ski associations (Austria, Switzerland and Romania) that host FIS World Cup events worldwide.
